In the spring of 1998, the Conway Climber was run from Llandudno Junction up the Conwy Valley past my brother-in-law's domicile at Eglwysbach. Here is the Severn Valley Railways class 4MT 2-6-4 tank 80079 on the abortive first run photographed at Tal-y-cafn. The train stalled further up the valley, caught in the reverse curves, so a class 47 was sent to rescue it. The train ran fine the next day with a reduced loading. photo DGC.
