Stanier Black 5 44871 at Bo'ness 11th April 2010. The loco had arrived along with its
sister engine 45407 after taking part in the Great Britain III tour the previous day. The
locomotive is pictured just to the east of the running shed. The wreath on the tender is in
memory of Alastair Kirkcaldy, a long time volunteer at Bo'ness whose funeral had taken place
a few days earlier.
44871 used to be resident at Bo'ness but was sold to Ian Riley and restored at the East Lancs
Railway to mainline specification. A magnificent looking beast!

On October 27th 2012 44871 paired with 45407 was used on an SRPS Railtour from Fort William
to Polmont. This tour was diesel hauled north, then doubled up as a positioning move to get
the 2 Black Fives back south after operating the Jacobite for that year. The pair are seen
here at Bo'ness on Sunday October 28th when 44871 hauled the service train for the day.
