Designed by Sir William Stanier, 6229 is one of the class of Princess Coronation pacifics built to haul crack expresses out of Euston in the 1930's. 6229 was re-streamlined in 2009 at Tyseley and was then moved to the NRM at York where this photograph was taken. A truly amazing paint job! In BR days the loco ran unstreamlined with the number 46229 and it has also seen many years running in the preservation era on the mainline. Photo DGC.
