Carriage Department

Don

The Carriage Department as described here is really only the "historical vehicle" side of the department. There is also a the late Robin and Stuart (senior) section which maintains the Railtour vehicles. A fair amount of cross-fertilisation goes on - no demarkation disputes!

The current restoration team consists of W Stuart Sellar, Don Clarke, Graham Warren, John Russell Brian Williams, Jim Pairman, Robbie Thomson, Alistair MacLean, Dave Hall, Ken Ballantine and latest recruit Peter Scott. Alastair McPhee is now part of the restoration "gang of three" who are restoring G&SWR vehicles over in the museum. We get help from the Painters Deptartment and also from the Railtour boys when they are stuck for a job (for just a few seconds - that's all it takes to nab one!). Our skills are largely on the woodworking side of things, but hands are turned to other disciplines as required - Brian is our resident metal basher.  Jim & Alastair working on 461 running board We are progressing but not as fast as we'd like - it is all a question of man-hours (or woman-hours). Any help out there? Of the skilled variety? Any Tuesday, Thursday or Sunday suits!

The team includes Robbie Thompson (left) and Alastair McPhee (right). Robbie is a professional pattern maker, so is a boon when it comes to intricate precision work.

Davy Hall
Joining in 2010 was Davy Hall (right), a professional electrician, who has contributed greatly to the wiring effort on many vehicles.

John Russell< John Russell not only works with us in the RCB but helps out with stewarding on the Santas and Thomas events. Jim Pairman has an amusing story on any subject Jim Pairman Graham Warren Graham > Warren is a very useful man to have around
